These tours are incredible – I went on a tour to Normandy with Whentrumpetsfade and it was the memory of a lifetime. I walked away with a profoundly enriched knowledge of what happened on D-day, how it changed the war and a deepened respect for the military and those who serve.
The idea of what happened in World War II will never be the same for me. I joined a When Trumpets Fade tour in September of 2009. It was my first time in Normandy, and I had the experience of a lifetime. With the amazing guidance by Niall Hanan, I could really understand a lot more about the emotions of the war by being on the same ground where millions of people gave their lives for a totally different world. The When Trumpets Fade tour was, for me, far from a tourist experience—it was like watching history from where it actually happened.
I went on the Normandy tour with my 16-year-old son. We had a wonderful and unique experience visiting the historic D-Day landing beaches.
Our expert tour guide was Niall Hanan, and he brought us to all the key locations of Operation Overlord. Niall brought the whole event to life for us with his meticulously-planned daily itinerary.
Before the tour, I had very limited knowledge about the D-Day landings. After the tour, I had detailed knowledge of how the landings were planned and executed, and why the events of June 6th, 1944 were so significant. Why were so many Americans killed on Omaha beach? What was the role of the Airborne units that were dropped behind enemy lines in Normandy before the landings took place? How did the Germans defend the beaches? The tour provided all the answers to so many questions.
I can honestly look back and say that this is one of the best things that I have done with my son. It is a brilliant tour, and I thoroughly recommend it
